The scientist-practitioner model depends on the interplay of research and clinical work. Just as research informs and improves clinical practice, clinical practice leads to the generation of important and practical research questions. In this paper, we discuss the clinical application of PCIT and its essential clinical components. Recent modifications made to the PCIT protocol are highlighted and several recommendations for dealing with common implementation difficulties are made.
