The following sites are located primarily in the Gainesville area. However, there are sites outside the county because some students have performed the practicum experience in a variety of different locations. The student must check with the practicum advisor before locating a site outside the Gainesville area.
The two practica are meant to be primarily experiential courses in which the student will learn at first hand what transpires in a particular agency, institution, company that works in the human services field. However, the student will be required to attend class on campus at designated times during the semester. Certain topics will be presented for review and discussed in class.
When a student knows when he or she will begin the first practicum, the student ought to confer with the practicum advisor to determine the opportunities available. After investigating more than one site, the student will then choose the site that will best suit career goals. A conference with the practicum advisor will go over such areas as student's interests, career goals, future academic goals, among others. Deciding on a practicum site ought not be taken lightly.
The following sites are those sites that have been used by students in previous years. The contact person's name, telephone number, and address are as up-to-date as possible. There are probably many sites that are not included simply because the site has not been reviewed. This is an on going process. If a particular site is not on this list, this does not mean that it cannot be included. The practicum advisor needs primary information about the site. This can best be done by obtaining a brochure or other printed information on the site. Give this to the advisor and it will be reviewed to determine if the site meets the department's requirements.
NOTE: Those sites marked by two asterisks have fully executed
affiliation agreements. These are the only sites that can be selected initially.
The other sites are in the stages of being approved. So, PLEASE confine
yourself to those marked witht he asterisks.
