General Information
I am one of the the five core neuropsychology faculty in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. My special research interests include epilepsy, memory disorders (including spared abilities in amnesia), the cognitive neuroscience of emotion, and professional issues in neuropsychology. In collaboration with Bruce Crosson and Chris Loftis, we continue work on functional magnetic imaging protocols capable of detecting encoding-related activity in the hippocampus with an eventual eye toward clinical application in surgical epilepsy. Clinically, I have interests in a broad range of topics including neuropsychological aspects of epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, and forensic applications of neuropsychology to criminal and civil cases. I am one of the primary neuropsychologist participants in the Epilepsy Management Conference, a weekly interdisciplinary meeting where epilepsy surgery decisions are made. I teach Adult Neuropsychological Assessment, an advanced seminar in Forensic Neuropsychology, and the Cognitive Psychology proseminar in the Graduate Program, and enjoy teaching Abnormal Psychology in the Undergraduate Curriculum. Like all other faculty, I also supervise graduate students, interns, and post-docs in neuropsychological assessment and intervention. I play softball on the Department softball team, better known for my glove than my bat.

Currently,
a number of studies are being conducted in the laboratory in collaboration
with students, interns, post-docs, and other faculty. We're currently
organized around a number of themes, including neuropsychological predictors/consequences
of epilepsy surgery, effects of anterior temporal lobectomy on emotional
modulation (Dawn Bowers, Ph.D. is the P.I. on these studies), and use of
indirect memory measures to detect malingered or exaggerated memory complaints.
Current students and interns working in the lab are listed below .
